Azienda Agricola La Lastra is one of the best estates in the San Gimignano region of Tuscany. Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG and DOCG Riserva whites are made with Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG for red.

Owner: Renato Spanu and his wife Nadia Betti created La Lastra, working with rented vineyards. This followed 10 years working in Tuscany as agronomic consultants, having arrived here in the 1980s. They also had help from winemaker friend Enrico Paternoster and Valerio Zorzi. Nadia Betti’s brother Christian Betti is also involved.

Vineyards: The original vineyard comprised 7 ha (60,000 bottles). Four plots on hill sites. Very superficial calcareous soils. In 2000 La Lastra acquired the neighbouring Marciano estate with 23ha of vines and the Agriturismo Marciano. In 2020 La Lastra bought the vineyards of Canneta, an organic winery in Santa Lucia, a locality in the south south-east of the commune of San Gimignano in Tuscany, Italy.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, La Lastra: 2018 Slightly smoky, green, warm lemon-sherbet finish (2019 Anteprima). | 2019 Fermented in old oak. Well-weighted, savoury, good texture, no terpenes (2020 Anteprima).
