Prof Attilio Scienza was born in Serra Riccò (Genoa) in 1945. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Catholic University of Sacred Heart of Piacenza in 1968-1969. Since 1974 Assistant Professor at the Institute of tree crops of the University of Milan. Since 1983 Associate Professor of Plant and phytohormones in arboriculture at the University of Milan. Since 2004 Professor of Viticulture at the same university. Director General of Agriculture of St. Michele all’Adige from 1985 to 1991. He contributes to the following scientific publications: Journal International des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin, Bordeaux; Journal of Wine Research, London; Vignevini, Bologna; Journal of Enology and Viticulture, Conegliano, Veneto; and Vitis, Geilweilerhof. He was responsible for numerous research projects in national agronomic physiology and the genetics of the vine. He was awarded the AEI Award for Scientific Research in 1991, and has been a guest at national and international conferences. He is director of the Master’s Degree program in “wine management systems” at the University of Milan and author of more than three hundred scientific papers in magazines and journals of international and national conferences, as well as monographs and handbooks on science related to the vine and viticulture.
His son’s estate in Castagneto Carducci in the Bolgheri region is called Guado al Melo.
