The Alsace region in north-eastern France is described as ‘German by heritage, French by adoption,’ (Hugh Johnson & Hubrecht Duijker: 1987, p.19). It has the Vosges Mountains to the west and the Black Forest and Rhine River plain to the east. The region’s generic AOCs are Alsace AOC and Crémant d’Alsace AOC. Alsace is one of the world’s true hotspots for organic, Biodynamic and natural wine-growing, data for which are here. The region’s Biodynamic, natural, organic and conventional wineries are listed under Alsace’s two departments of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin.
