Alsace Grand Cru AOC Rangen is one of the Grand Cru AOC sites in the Alsace region of north-eastern France. Rangen is located in the communes of Thann and Vieux-Thann in the Haut-Rhin department. Léonard Humbrecht of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is credited with restoring the Rangen’s steep slopes in the 1970s.

Vineyards: Most of Rangen is in Thann and all of Thann’s vineyards are in Rangen, making it the only Grand Cru village in Alsace (Wine Magazine, October 1991, p.16).

Terroir: Fertile, quick-draining heat-retaining soil, sun trap.

History: See Tom Stevenson (1993).
