Wheat is a grass widely cultivated for its seed, a cereal grain which is a global staple food. It was among the first plants to be domesticated and the world’s most widespread crop (The Economist: 19 Dec 2020, p.119). The many species of wheat together make up the genus Triticum; the most widely grown is common wheat (T. aestivum). It can also be sown in vineyards as a cover crop.
