WEINGUT TRAUTWEIN is a winery on the eastern fringe of the Kaiserstuhl sub-region Baden region of Germany.
Owner: Hans-Peter and Elfriede Trautwein. Hans-Peter took over here in 1976.
History: The estate’s origins date to 1649.
Certification:1980 First organic practices. | 1986 Certified organic for the first time (by Germany’s Bioland). | 2004 Demeter certified Biodynamic for the first time. | 2016 Still Demeter certified Biodynamic.
Memberships: Renaissance des Appellations.
VINEYARDS 2003 8 hectares (20 acres). Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer in Bahlinger Fohberg; Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris in Bahlinger Silberberg.
Wines 2003 95% dry wines. Tasted his Pinot Blanc 2002 (creamy, slightly fat and oxidised), 2001 Pinot Gris (as above), 2001 Gz Eiswein (not bad, lush, 190g/l RS), and 1999 PN Spätlese (oaky as 27 months in barrel) at the German Wine Tasting, Vinopolis, London Monday 7th April 2003.
