Wanaka is a sub-region of Otago on New Zealand’s south island named after Lake Wanaka. The presence of the lake influences local climatic conditions and provides the backdrop to one of the world’s most picturesque vineyards, Rippon (see link below).

Terroir: Overall, Wanaka is cooler and slightly wetter than the Queenstown and Cromwell areas, says Paul White (Sept 2008).
