Viña Maitia is an estate winery in the Loncomilla Valley of Maule region, around 186 miles (300km) south of Santiago, Chile. It is run by husband and wife David Marcel (French, Basque) and Loreta Garau (Chilean).
Vineyards:The vines are up to 150 years old and are a combination of Carignan, Malbec and Pais. Dry farmed.
Organic certification: No certification (Real Wine Fair 2016).
Winemaking: Low or no sulfur additions. Natural yeast fermentation in concrete tanks.
Rew wines
Arnoa
Aupa Pipeno: 2015 70% Pais, 30% Carignan. Late 18th-century vines. Dry farmed. Loncomilla valley.
Mattia: 2014 60% Carignan, 30% CF, 10% Pais. Nice. Very sweet-tasting fruit, decent body, well done at the Real Wine Fair 2016.
