Valtellina or the Valtelline is a valley in the Lombardy (‘Lombardia’) region of northern Italy, bordering Switzerland. Today it is known for its ski centre, hot spring spas, bresaola, cheeses and wines. Other local products include ‘pizzoccheri’ which is a large buckwheat tagliatelle served with vegetables and a sauce made of butter and local cheese. The main grape is Nebbiolo (aka Chiavennasca).
