Vale de Capucha is an organic estate in the Lisboa (Lisbon) Vinho Regional, around 6.2 miles (10km) north of the city of Lisbon, on Portugal’s Atlantic coast. Capucha refers to the Roman military road running between Lisbon and Santarai.
Owner: Marques family. Under Pedro Marques the estate transformed from growing grapes for bulk wine to estate bottled wines from indigenous grape varieties.
Vineyards: At roughly sea level. The highest vines are at 100m above sea level. Soil is Kimmeridgian limestone mixed with clay. The main white grape varieties are Arinto de Bucelas, Alvarinho, and Gouveio. The main red variety is Fernão Pires.
Organic certification: 2015 First vintage with full organic certification.
White wines
Branco: A blend of white wine varieties.
Alvarinho: 2012 3 weeks skin contact.

Fossil: 2015 Wild ferment.
Gouveio Branco: 100% Gouveio. Organically grown (certified) vines planted in 1996 in Kimmeridgian limestone soil at 10m (32.80 ft) above sea level.
