Tortonese is a geographical region in the eastern area of Alessandria province of Piemonte (Piedmont). It is bordered to the north and east by Lombardy (province of Pavia) and, at the extreme southern tip, by Mount Chiappo, in part with Emilia Romagna (Piacenza province). It takes its name from the city of Tortona, which has Roman origins. Tortonese is east of Oltrepò Pavese (Lombardy), north of the Po that divides it from Lomellina (Lombardy), west of the Scrivia which divides it to the centra part of Alessandria province, and south of the Ligurian Apennines that divide it from the Borbera valley, part of the Novese area.
