The Three Pillars
The first thing to consider about Biodynamics in wine is not about wine directly.
People in the Wine Trade often joke about having made a small fortune from what started out as having been a much larger one. From a Biodynamic perspective well run estates observe three so-called pillars:
1) Pillar one is the Economic environment: Wineries with a sound Economic environment and financial stability have more leeway to lead.An example might be on green initiatives that may also help living beings, humans or animals.
2) Pillar 2 is the Natural Environment: This means working with nature by making efforts to understand the natural world’s own complex rhythym. This can be more profitable long term than constantly fighting nature sporadically wasting time, goodwill, energy and money.
3) Pillar 3 is the social environment. Treating staff, clients, and neighbours as equals can pay lasting, life enhancing dividends for all.
