The Stags Leap District AVA is an American Viticultural Area located within the Napa Valley AVA 6 miles (9.7 km) north of the city of Napa, California. The AVA dates from 1989.
Size: Napa’s smallest AVA, 1.5km wide and nearly 5km long (Murphy: 2007).
Terroir: The cool southern end of the AVA north of Napa town and east of Yountville is bisected by the Silverado Trail. The Vaca mountains are to the east, and the Napa river is to the west.
Vineyards: 526ha (Murphy: 2007).
