Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule is a commune in the Allier department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in central France which gives its name to the Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule AOC. The name is taken from Saint Pourçain, a 6th century AD freed slave who founded a local monastery. Saint-Pourçain is described by Roger Voss as ‘hardly more than an overgrown village.
