Rive is a higher-level designation (akin to the French premier Cru) used for sparkling wines from 31 specific named sites or areas in 12 communes in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG area. Only wines from steep vineyard sites yielding grapes of unusually-high quality qualify. Rive is similar to the French term ‘Cru’ (for still or sparkling wines in this case). The grapes must be exclusively hand picked to ensure the berries remain intact; all of the wine must be from a single year, and the identified site must be on the label. Yield must not exceed 13 tonnes per hectare. The minimum alcohol at bottling must be 9.5%.
Designated Rive: Cartizze. | Rive di Colbertaldo. | Rive di Ogliano.
