Podere Canapaccia is a winery on the outskirts of Torrenieri in the north-eastern part of the Montalcino region in Tuscany, overlooking the historic Via Francigena. The name Podere Canapaccia derives from the farming of hemp, the estate’s historic activity.

Owner: Simone Violini, whose father is Natale Violini. | Manager Federico Bartolomei (see Podernuovo).

Vineyards: Around 1ha of Brunello and 0.5ha of Rosso di Montalcino in total. At the back of the winery there is a small plot (0.18ha) of Sangiovese but this is classified IGT. The main vineyard is on the SP14 road leading up to Montalcino from Torrenieri, near the La Rasina winery at Località La Rasina. There are two blocks: planted 1997 on 5BB or 420A [not planted by Federico]; and the other planted by Federico in 2004 on 420A rootstock. The neighbours are Biondi-Santi and La Rasina (to the east on the other/lower side of the SP14), olive trees belonging to Casanova di Neri (descending to his car park), Solaria to the north-west and La Verbena to the south-east.

Winemaking: Hand picked. Destemmed. Fermented in 50hl steel tanks for 15 days. Run off. Pressed. MLF off skins. Aged in 500-litre French puncheons (1st ,2nd, and 3rd fill.
