Plantamatura is an organic estate in Gioia del Colle in Bari Province, Puglia, Italy. It makes Gioia del Colle DOC red wines.
Owner: Erasmo Plantamura; Mariangela Plantamura (347.4711027). She lived in the house as a child. Until 2001 Mariangela’s father (and grandfather) sold their grapes. Their first bottled vintage produced 2,000 bottles of wine. In 2012 they reached nearly 50,000 bottles.
Vineyards: 8ha (Gambero Rosso: 2015). 350 metres. Clay-limestone. Vines surrounded by woodland. Dry farmed vineyards (a natural aquifer below). Mariangela’s grandfather planted vines from 1946. Budwood said to be a Primitivo biotype developed in the 17th century by a local monk in Gioia del Colle, and adapted to the windy conditions here. Mix of bush vines and VSP.
Grape sales: To Tomas and Giesen (Tuscany).
Organic certification: 1974 Went organic. 1996 First vintage withh official certification.
Winery, winemaking: Temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation tanks.

Gioia del Colle Primitivo DOC, Plantamatura Etichetta Nera (Black label): From ‘collina di Gioia del Colle, contrada Rosati e Parco Largo.’ Clay limestone. VSP (wire trained). 100% Primitivo. Hand picked, 12 months in tank, then 12 months in botti di rovere.

Gioia del Colle Primitivo DOC Riserva, Plantamatura Etichetta Nera (Black label): From ‘collina di Gioia del Colle, contrada Terzi-Liponti.’ Fertile clay. Bush vines 100% Primitivo. Hand picked, 12 months in tank, then 12 months oak botti.
