Petaluma is a winery founded by Brian Croser in what Jeremy Lee Williams describes as the ‘high, very cool and humid Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills.’ The aim was to get wines with more interesting aromas and acidity. Croser looked for the warmer sites in the cool region or what he described to Jeremy Lee Williams as ‘the cool site, hot spot paradox’. Croser’s first vintage here was 1976, with the first Chardonnay in 1977 made from grapes in Cowra.
