Organophosphates | Also called organophosphate pesticides. They are neurotoxins which poison the nervous systems of unwanted insects by interfering with an enzyme in the brain, acetylchlolinesterase, which regulates signals between brain cells. Very similar enzymes are found in the human nervous system, and thus chlorpyrifos and other organophosphates can cause injury to the human brain.
