Muscat Ottonel is a white grape variety, a crossing created (accidentally) in 1839 in Angers, France by H. Ottonel. Its family tree was unknown until DNA testing established that it is a Chasselas × Muscat d’Eisenstadt cross. A fungal disease sensitive vine, Muscat Ottonel is rich in sugar and can be used to make dry or fortified wines. It ripens earlier than both Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Muscat of Alexandria.
