Motuproprio is an IGT Toscana Rosso made from 100% Sangiovese grown, picked and vinified in three wineries belonging to Bertani Domains, namely Val di Suga in Montalcino (Brunello di Montalcino DOCG), Tenuta Trerose in Montepulciano (Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG) and San Leonino in Castellina in Chianti (Chianti Classico DOCG). The label bears a Griffin, the emblem of the municipality of Montepulciano. Motuproprio translates as ‘on his own initiative’, indicating a document with which the Pope can overturn established rules or procedures by exercising absolute sovereingty over the church.
