Montefalco, 2008 vintage: See Montefalco DOC. | Montefalco region of Umbria.

2008 Rating ***** (five). Growing season Mild, dry winter. The vintage was characterized by a mild and dry winter and by a particularly cool and rainy spring, which caused a delay of a few days in the phenolic phases and a slowdown in vegetative growth. Late budburst, flowering and set. Mild and not too humid summer, dry summer with normal temperatures. Vegetative growth slowed. Veraison is delayed by about two weeks. Ripening two weeks later than usual. Late Sept and early Oct were cool, with Tramontana winds, with significant temperature ranges. Low humidity. Healthy grapes, picked late, grapes with ood aromatic and phenolic ripeness. Wine quality Normal alcohol levels. Regular fermentations. Some potentially excellent wines, with drinkability and crispness. Alcohol levels within the norm, plus balanced acidity. ‘Warm but balanced year. Ripe tannins,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016). Overall excellent year, in particular for Sagrantino.
