Montefalco, 2006 vintage: See Montefalco DOC. | Montefalco region of Umbria.

2006: Rating **** (four). Growing season ‘Cool year. Late harvest,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016). Wine quality ‘Excellent Sagrantino,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016).

The Consorzio’s vintage report: ‘Cold and dry winter. Late budding (3-5 days). Mild spring with little rain. Cool and dry start of summer. July and August with below average temperatures and high rainfall. Dry and warm September and early October. From a qualitative point of view, the ripening of Sagrantino was very good in the warmer sides, less so in the cold ones. In the case of Sangiovese this differentiation was even more pronounced.’

Winemaking: Regular fermentations. Very fine and elegant wines. Very rich and pleasant from an aromatic point of view. Low tannins, very good volume and persistence. Structure slightly inferior to the hottest years. A particularly interesting and positive year for Sagrantino.
