Montefalco, 2005 vintage: See Montefalco DOC. | Montefalco region of Umbria.
2005 Rating ***** (five). Growing season ‘Balanced year but not quite as firm as 2006,’ (Stephen Brook, 2016).
The Consorzio’s vintage report: ‘The 2005 vintage had a distinct climatic trend in two phases: the first, corresponding to the period prior to veraison, from May to the end of July, characterized by high temperatures and lower than average rainfall. The second from August to October, in the period between veraison and ripening, instead had an almost opposite trend with above average rainfall and low temperatures, this caused water stress in the first part of the season with consequent advance of the phases. phenological, reduction of the size of the berry and malic acid and increase of polyphenols. In the second phase the maturation continued without excessive water stress, while the low temperatures favored a good aromatic expression. The slight dilution due to the abundance of rain did not affect the high concentration of the grapes.’
