Mediterranean Buckthorn (Rhamnus alaternus), an evergreen bush found in the Mediterranean whose wood smells coarse and unpleasant. The small yellowish-green flowers are eight male or female, but both usually occur on the same plant, from the females develop the berries which ripen through red to black.
