Maysara Winery & Momtazi Vineyards

Background: In 1997 Moe Momtazi who is Persian left Iran. In 1982 he and his wife Flora purchased a 532-acre abandoned wheat farm just south of their home in McMinnville, Oregon in the Willamette Valley AVA. Wines are made under the McMinnville AVA.

White wines

Pinot Blanc, Autees: Autees is the ancient Persian Goddess that protects all the plants and trees on Earth. She is the protector of life and all things that grow.

Riesling, Anahita: An off-dry Riesling grown in the McMinnville AVA.

Pinot Noir Rosé, Roseena: Roseena is an ancient Persian term for a beautiful woman who naturally smells of roses.

Pinot Gris, Arsheen | Arsheen was an Archeamenian princess during the 500 BC era (The Achaemenid Persian Empire (c. 550–330 BCE), also known as the First Persian Empire or First Iranian Empire, was a Persian empire in Western Asia). She taught astronomy and was granted the role of winemaker in the palace due to her impeccable palate and knowledge.

Red wines

Pinot Noir, Jamsheed: According to ancient Persian legend, King Jamsheed was able to observe his entire realm by peering into his full wine goblet. We thought this name fitting for a wine which blends grapes from every block of our vineyard. Sourced from Dijon and Pommard clone vines planted on a variety of soil types and elevations.

Pinot Noir, Cyrus: Formerly the Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir Asha: Asha is an ancient Persian word describing one who has a clean conscience for good thoughts, words, and deeds with pure demeanor and performance.

Pinot Noir, Delara: Delara is a Persian word that translates as ‘capture one’s heart’.

Pinot Noir, Mitra: Mitra (mee-tra) was an ancient Persian deity of friendship and oaths, and was thought to be the source of cosmic light. He was also assigned the domain of human welfare. This small-lot wine is a hand selected, four-barrel blend representing the entire clonal selection of the estate Momtazi Vineyard.
