Mas des Capitelles is an organic estate in the commune of Faugères
Owner: Cédric Laugé. Rose-Marie Laugé. Brice Laugé. Pierre Laugé (patriarch). Jean Laugé is in charge of viticulture and the overall running of the domaine. His wife Rose-Marie looks after direct sales. Son Cédric does the winemaking and ageing. Another son Brice does the commercial side and deliveries. The family have been in wine for many generations, family members being behind the local co-op and the creation of the AOC. Jean Laugé’s grandfather was among those who created the village ‘cave coopérative’ and later the appellation Faugères. During this period he stoped making his wine at home and made it at the co-op instead where he was president. A few years later he was joined by his son Jean, staying for 35 years until 1999. At this point his son,Cédric, decided to estate grow and bottle. He was soon joined by Brice.
Vineyards: 23ha. 90% free-standing bush vines. The vines are located mainly in the commune of Faugères. The Mas des Capitelles vineyard has a high proportion of Carignan which is the historic grape of Faugères and more generally Languedoc Roussillon wines. Mourvèdre is another key grape here.
Viticulture: Biodynamic practices from 2009. 500, 501. Hand stir in a barrel. Yields: 20-35hl/ha = 500-600hl.
