Libourne is a market town on the right bank of the Bordeaux region at the confluence of the Dordogne river and its little northern tributary, the Isle. One of nine communes in the Saint-Emilion region, its red wines can be made under the Saint-Émilion AOC. One mile (1.6km) to the west is the Fronsac region (see Fronsadais), with the Pomerol region immediately to the east and north-east.
