Lazzeretti is a family owned estate winery in Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. Its main wines are Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. 

Owners: Marco and Lucia Lazzeretti (siblings).

Estate vineyards: The vineyards are located at Podere Canchi, below the hill of Montalcino (Monte del Leccio) or ‘olive tree hill’), on the (northern) Siena side, near La Fortuna. The first vineyard was planted in 1981 by Marco and Lucia’s grandfather Pietro Bastiani (who married Gianni Capitani, and it was she who had the vines). In 1998 just as Marco had finished his military service, his grandfather asked him if he would like to take on the estate, and overcome his doubts, Marco agreed. At that time there was 1ha of planted vineyard. In 1998 Marco planted another 4 hectares of vineyard. In total in 2014 there were 5ha of vines of which the main parcel comprises 4ha, and the other 1ha is split into three blocks. Roughly 350 metres. The soil is described as “tufaceo argilloso ricco in scheletro”. The first grape harvest was in 2001. The winery symbol is an old key that was found when one of the new vineyards was being planted.

Tastings: There is a tasting area at the winery, and the estate owns a wine shop in the centre of Montalcino (see below) where the wines can be tasted and purchased direct.

Red wines

Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Lazzeretti: 2003 Barrel aged. Overripe and oaky nose, dry wood (Anteprima 2005). | 2011 6,500 bottles. Steel and 750 litre tonneaux. Rich jam but still savoury, slight fade at finish (Anteprima 2014). | 2014 Sweet plum, simple (Anteprima 2015). | 2018 3,500 bottles.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Lazzeretti: 2009 7,700 bottles. 30 months in Slavonian botti (30-40hl). Traditional style, a bit dry and evolved (Anteprima 2014). | 2010 9,700 bottles. Bit of blur, quite evolved, signs of drying out (Anteprima 2015). | 2015 18,000 bottles.

Direct sales: Either from the winery or from the estate’s wine shop on Via Ricasoli, the main street in Montalcino.
