John Stimfig has been writing about wine since 1993 (see wine writers, journalists). In that time, he has written for numerous, newspapers, magazines and websites including Wine, Wine & Spirit International, Harpers, The Observer, Food & Wine, Investors Chronicle and Brummell. For five years from 2014 he was Content Director of Decanter magazine, but left on 28 June 2019 to return to life as a freelance. He had been involved with Decanter in a variety of roles for nearly twenty three years, as a feature writer, columnist, contributing editor and even its East Coast US correspondent. He was also a contributing editor to the FT’s How to Spend It Magazines and was the 2012 Louis Roederer International Wine Feature Writer of the Year. He was also runner up in the 2013 Fortnum & Mason Awards for its Drink Writer Category.
