Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian. It lies at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the city of Naples in the Campania region of southern Italy. It is the largest of the Phlegrean islands. The island is roughly trapezoidal in shape 6 miles (10 km) east to west and 4 miles (7 km) north to south and has about 21 miles (34 km) of coastline. The surface area of is 18 sq miles (46.3 square kilometres). It is almost entirely mountainous. The highest peak is Mount Epomeo at 2,585 feet (788 metres). Ischia is the name of the main commune of the island.
