Grosse lage | Term adopted in 2013 by member wineries of Germany’s VDP association for those vineyards classified by its members as their best and hence capable of generating a ‘grosses gewächs’. Prior to that, the term ‘erste lage’ was used for such vineyards, but since 2013 erste lage has been used for the lesser premier cru tier, leaving Grosse Lage for the grand cru tier.
