Frimaio–Fattoria Poggio Romita is located in the hamlet of Romita in San Donato in Poggio, a locality (‘frazione’) within the former commune of Barberino Val d’Elsa, now Barberino Tavarnelle, in Firenze Province in the Chianti Classico DOCG region of Tuscany. The main activity of Fattoria Poggio Romita is the production of wine and olive oil. The Sestini family, originally from Florence, has been selling and making wine for four generations, since the early 1900s: as sharecroppers (see mezzadria) and from 1968 as landowners after Angiolo Sestini (3rd generation) bought an old farm in La Romita. The pre-fix Frimaio derives from Frimaire, the 9th month of the French Revolution Republican Calendar.
