Fattoria di Rodano is an organic estate in Castellina-in-Chianti in the western part of the Chianti Classico DOCG in Tuscany.
Background:The original farm dates back from the middle ages, when it was a Bendictine house, used as a lodge for pilgrims travelling from northern Europe to Rome as it lies on the Via Francigena, the medieval road linking the Val d’Elsa (Elsa Valley) with Castellina-in-Chianti, and eventually Rome and the Vatican.
Owner: The Pozzesi family since the 1500s. The first bottled wines appeared under Vittorio Pozzesi in 1967, after the mezzadria (sharecropping) era ended. He was succeeded by his son, Enrico. The domaine’s former winemaker was Giulio Gambelli, who passed away in 2012. Gambelli was one of the most legendary winemakers in Chianti, consulting for such estates as Montevertine and Gianfranco Soldera. Rodáno is quite a large estate, with more than a hundred hectares under vine, and is one of the best-kept secrets in all of Tuscany. The estate has been in the Pozzesi family since the 1700s. In the modern era Vittorio Pozzesi, a former President of the Chianti Classico Consorzio, gained from advice given him by the renowned Giulio Gambelli. Vittorio was succeeded by his son Enrico.
