Estremadura is one of three key regions in southern Portugal, the others being Ribatejo and Alentejo. It is not to be confused with the Extremadura region of neighbouring Spain.
Estremadura is described by Jo Burzynska (2000) as ‘Portugal’s largest volume producer…of rather unspectacular wines.’
