DOMAINE BOUSQUET is an organic estate winery in the Tupungato region in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It was founded in 1998 by the Jean Bousquet after he sold the family’s estate winery in France. They were the first to plant vines in Tupungato. The company produces 200,000 bottles per year (Source: Anne Bousquet, 2018, perso).

JEAN BOUSQUET / Jean Bousquet was born in the southern French city of Carcassone in 1948. Aged twenty-three, he bought 140 hectares of abandoned land, comprised of 30% old vineyards, 40% apple trees, and the remaining 30% uncultivated land. Everything had to be redone, and after twenty years Jean had 120-ha of vines (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon), a wine cellar and a growing wine market. Jean wanted to make a riper style of wine and began travelling every winter to different wine-growing regions around the world. In 1990, he became acquainted with the vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina and in 1997 he established his company in Tupungato, Mendoza. Jean Bousquet retired in 2013.

VINEYARDS / 1998 110 hectares. Planted as organic but with no certification. / 2009 110ha of vines. / 2017 In March 2017 Guillaume Bousquet (perso) said they had almost 300 ha of vineyards, most of them in the Gualtallary area. We planted and also bought new vineyards.” / 2018 The main grapes are Malbec and Chardonnay. Also Merlot, Cab Sauv, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Grenache Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris.

TERROIR / The vines are in Tupungato and neighbouring Tunuyán department in north central part of the Uco Valley. The Tupungato vines are in the area of Alto Gualtallary.  The Tunuyan vines are in the area of Los Arboles. 1,000-1,400 metres. Very permeable, sandy and rocky soils. Vertical trellis. Drip irrigation. Reliant on snowmelt. In Argentina using well water is not permitted.
