Coteaux du Languedoc AOC was created in 1985 but was replaced in May 2007 by the Languedoc AOC. It covered still wines of all three colours (but mainly reds and rosés) in France’s Languedoc region. The name Coteaux du Languedoc or ‘Languedoc Hills’ evoked the local hilly garrigue terrain. Geographically it covered 168 communes in total, in the Aude (5), Gard (19) and Hérault (144) departments between Narbonne and Nîmes. The following sub-regions could append their name to Coteaux du Languedoc:
Coteaux du Languedoc AOC Blanc: La Clape (Aude). | Picpoul de Pinet AOC.
Coteaux du Languedoc AOC Rouge & Rosé: La Clape (Aude). | Quatourze (Aude). Cabrières. | Montpeyroux. | Saint-Saturnin. | Pic Saint-Loup. | Saint Georges d’Orques. | Les Coteaux de La Méjanelle. | Saint Drézéry. | Saint Christol. | Verargues.
