Colline Metallifere translates from Italian as ‘metal-bearing’ or metalliferous hills, in this case in the central west part of Tuscany, and other provinces on the Tuscan coast, namely Livorno (Leghorn), Pisa, Siena, and Grosseto. The area has a history of metallurgy and mining for 3,000 years.
