Founder-owner: David Hohnen (Australian born, trained as a winemaker). He chose the Cloudy Bay name after a description apparently coined by Captain Cook. At the time Marlborough was focussed on Muller-Thurgau. See Cape Mentelle, David Hohnen’s other venture.
