Clairette de Die AOC was a traditional method sparkling dry white wine made from 100% Clairette grapes grown around the town of Die (see Diois) of the Northern Rhône region of France. However it was phased out from 1999 in favour of Crémant de Die AOC, thus removing the name Clairette from an appellation of a wine that must be made from 100% Clairette grapes, yet retaining it for one that does not have to contain any (Tom Stevenson: 2011, p.266).
Another sparking wine from the same area is Clairette de Die AOC Tradition (‘Méthode ancestrale’) based on Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and made using the Méthode Dioise Ancestrale.
