Ciabot Berton is a family-owned winery in La Morra in Cuneo province in the Barolo region of Piemonte. Barolo DOCG and Langhe Nebbiolo DOC red wines are made. The estate was founded in the 1950s on a site 2km away from where it is now. The Oberto family were selling their grape into the 1950s until Luigi Oberto built his own winery in the place called ‘Ciabot Berton. In 1997 Luigi’s son Marco Oberto, an oenologist took over the business. In 2012 Federica (a sommelier), Marco’s wife joined the business.

Vineyards: Rocchettevino lies at 400–500 mertres asl. South-west facing. Chalky–marl soils.
Winery: 1960s concrete vats, Slavonian oak.

Barolo DOCG, 1961: 2013 Cool, late start, wet. Then good weather. Autumn had really nice, even and warm weather for a powerful elegant, subtle wine. From 3 sites: Bricco San Biagio (sand), Roggeri (clay) and Rive (medium soil). Fibreglass-lined concrete. Aged in 25hl Slav oak. Lovely sweet fruit, clean and clear (Collisioni 2017).
