Château Smith Haut Lafitte is an estate winery in Martillac in the Pessac-Léognan AOC on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.

Terroir: The finest terroir in Martillac. The vineyard of Château Smith-Haut-Lafitte is unusual for containing some Gunzian gravel deposits more usually the preserve of the Right Bank.

Pessac Léognan Blanc AOC, Château Smith Haut Lafitte: 1984 Animal, marzipan (Grands Blancs 1996). | 1993 Burnt rubber, acetaldehyde too, lacks genuine richness (Grands Blancs 1996). | 1994 Lacks grip, woody, fruit weight lacking, rubber, not great (Grands Blancs 1996). | 1995 Much more aromatic than 1994, smells of fine lees, tighter, earlier ripening and maybe a different blend from 1994 (Grands Blancs 1996).
