Château Matignon is an organic vineyard in Libourne in the Saint-Émilion AOC on the right bank of the Bordeaux region.
Background: Jean-Marie Bouldy–see Château Bellegrave à Pomerol–began renting this en fermage in 1993, first from its then owner, a Monsieur Matignon (who died 2015) and then from 2000 from the Ville de Libourne. In 2001 Jean-Marie Bouldy bought Monsieur Matignon’s estate in the Pomerol AOC, Château des Jacobins (which see).
Vineyards: 1.3ha.“Plateau sablo-graveleux. Parcelles situées à al pointe sud-ouest de Saint-Emilion, non loin de Château Taillefer, en Pomerol.” In fact, as Jean-Marie Bouldy told me at Millésime Bio 2016, the vineyard is on what he describes as ‘Libourne sand’.
Organic certification: 2012 First vintage with full organic certification.
