Château La Liquière is an organic estate in the Faugères AOC region in the Languedoc region of France. As well as Faugères a Coteaux du Languedoc Blanc AOC is made.

Owner: Mme Sophie Dumoulin (née Vidal) and her husband Laurent Dumoulin, Sophie’s brother François Vidal, and François and Sophie’s parents Bernard and Claudie Vidal.

Vineyard: 60ha in Faugères. Red: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault. White: Grenache blanc, Roussane, Terret, Clairette.

Organic certification: 2012 First vintage with full organic certification.

Wineries (2): Une ancienne, équipée de cuves enterrées permettant un travail par gravité, et une cave moderne plus fonctionnelle. Pour élever nos vins, nous utilisons des contenants de volumes différents: barriques de 225 litres, demi-muids.

Pet Nat Rosé, L’Unique gaz de schiste: From 1ha in Faugères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 50% Mourvèdre; 50% Grenache. Bottled with around 25g/l RS. A second fermentation takes place in bottle. And I was told at Millésime Bio 2015 this is disgorged. 3,000 bottles bottles. | 2014 11g/l RS and 10% alcohol. 4.5 bar. VG, clean Pink Lady apple flavours (Millésime Bio 2015).

Hérault Blanc, A Mi Chemin: From 1ha in Fauguères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 20% Grenache; 30% Terret; 35% Bourboulenc; 15% Muscat. 3,500 bottles.

Coteaux du Languedoc Blanc AOC, Les Amandiers: From 5ha in Fauguères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 30% Roussane; 25% Grenache; 20% Terret; 10% Viognier; 10% Bourboulenc; 5% Marsanne. Hand picked. 15,000 bottles. | 2014 Well made, whiff of sulfur (Millésime Bio 2015).

Faugères Blanc AOC, Cistus: From 2.5ha in Fauguères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 60% Roussane; 20% Grenache Blanc; 10% Vermentino; 10% Bourboulenc. Hand picked. 6 months in 500-litre barrels. 11,000 bottles. | 2013 Wide, savoury, ripe acacia style (Millésime Bio 2015).

Faugères Rosé AOC, Les Amandiers: From 18ha in Faugères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 50% Cinsault; 35% Mourvèdre; 15% Grenache. 55,000 bottles. A cuvée from young vines.

Hérault Rouge, A Mi Chemin: From 2.5ha in Faugères. Schist. 150 metres. 40% Carignan; 30% Syrah; 30 % Grenache. 14,000 bottles. | 2014 Unoaked. Bit reduced but well-handled tannin (Millésime Bio 2015).

Faugères Rouge AOC, Les Amandiers: From 20ha in Faugères. Schist. 150-300 metres. 30% Carignan; 30% Syrah; 30% Grenache; 10% Mourvèdre. Cab mac for Carignan and younger vine Syrah. 80,000 bottles.

Faugères Rouge AOC, Vieilles Vignes: From 17 ha in Faugères. Schist. 150 metres. 40% Carignan (part cab mac); 40% Grenache; 10% Syrah; 10% Mourvèdre. 50,000 bottles.

Faugères Rouge AOC, Nos Racines: From ha in Faugères. Schist. 150 metres. 95% Carignan (2 parcelles plantées avant 1900); 5% Grenache, 3,500 bottles. | 2013 Vat sample: chunky, sweet black fruit, almost more Grenache-like at Millésime Bio 2015.

Rouge, Cistus: From 7ha in Faugères. Schist. 150 metres. 70% Syrah; 15% Grenache; 10% Mourvèdre; 5% Carignan, 25,000 bottles. 30% aged in 500 litre barrels. From the best parcels.

Rouge, Tucade: In ‘patois’ or local dialect a ‘tucade’ is a fantasy or whim, which is the root of this wine. From 1 ha in Faugères. Schist. 150-350 metres. 85% Mourvèdre; 5% Syrah; 5% Carignan; 5% Grenache. 12 months in 225 litre barriques, followed by 8 months in tank before bottling. | 2001 Debut.
