Château de Rochemorin is an estate winery in Martillac in the Pessac-Léognan AOC on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. ‘La Roche Morine’ means ‘The Moor’s Stone’, so this area may have been a Moorish settlement in the 8th century. The estate once belonged to the Montesquieu family. It was abandoned in the 1930s.
Owner: André Lurton since 1973.
Vineyards: Under André Lurton the vineyard was extended into the woodland on one of the highest, south facing gravel slopes in Martillac. 62ha of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). 23ha of Sauvignon Blanc (85%) and Sémillon (15%) are hand picked for a super, clean, balanced barrel fermented white.
Organic certification: 2017 No (Source: Agence Bio 2017).
Winery: André Lurton installed a Tribaies machine at Château Rochemorin for the 2004 harvest, to sort mechanically harvested grapes.
Pessac-Léognan Blanc AOC, Château de Rochemorin: Sauvignon Blanc-dominated white.
Pessac-Léognan Rouge AOC, Château de Rochemorin: A lean, elegant, sometimes cedary red.
