Château de La Rivière is located in La Rivière, a commune in the Fronsadais on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. It produces red wines under the Fronsac AOC. The turret-laden Disney-esque chateau is the most spectacular building in the Fronsac region. It has 13th-century origins. It is located on a shelf below the limestone plateau with its own woodland as backdrop (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567).

Owner: Jacques Borie acquired it in 1962. A one-off, he would make guests blind taste his wine versus the classed growths, his often coming out on top.

Vineyards: Below the chateau on 30m-deep limestone (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567). 15ha in 1962. 46ha in the mid-1990s.

Winery: The chai is dug into the aforementioned limestone (space created by 9ha of quarry workings (David Peppercorn MW (1991, p.567).

Red Wines

Fronsac AOC, Château de La Rivière: The Grand Vin. A blend of the best vines situated at the top of the limestone plateau and on the slope (limestone & clay). Mainly Merlot plus Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
