Château Closiot is an estate winery in the commune of Barsac on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. White wines are made under the Sauternes AOC.
Owner: Bernard Sirot (a well-known Belgian wine journalist) and Mme Françoise Soizeau-Sirot (of Château Camperos).
Vineyards: Sauternes. 8ha on an elevated scrap of sandy, pebbly clay between Château Piada and Château Doisy-Védrines. ‘Muscadelle: 2%. Sauvignon Blanc: 3%, Sémillon: 95% (Stephen Brook: 1995, p.148).
Winemaking: Hand picking. ‘The must is fermented in tank, and the wine is aged in oak casks for between two and three years,’ (Stephen Brook: 1995, p.148). Experiments with acacia oak in the mid-1990s (1996 visit).
Wine production: ‘About 7,000 bottles on average,’ says Brook (1995, p.148).
