Château Bichon-Cassignols is an organic estate winery in La Brède in the Graves AOC on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.

BackgroundThe 18th-century château derives its name from Cru de Bichon (bichon = a small oak tree). | 1919 The first wines were made in 1919 by Jean-François Lespinasse’s grandparents. | 1981 Jean-François Lespinasse’s parents inherited the estate in 1981. Jean-François and his wife Marie now run it.

Vineyards: 2015 12.5ha (31 acres), 1/3 white, 2/3 red.

Organic certification: 2012 First vintage with full organic certification. 

White wines

Graves Blanc Sec AOC, Château Bichon-Cassignols1994 80% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Gooseberry citrus fruit lacking some lift at the estate 3rd October 1996. | 2014 60% Sémillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc. Clean, creamy, neutral at Millésime Bio Jan 2015.

Red wines

Graves Rouge AOC, Le Petit Bichon: The entry-level, unoaked red.

Graves Rouge AOC, Château Bichon-Cassignols: 2012 54% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon. Creamy dark fruit & chocolate (Millésime 2015). 

Graves Rouge AOC, Château Bichon-Cassignols, Grande Réserve: 2000 Cabernet and Merlot.
