Organic certification is a certification process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products. In general, any business directly involved in food production can be certified, including seed suppliers, grape growers, farmers, food processors, winemakers, retailers and restaurants. Well known certification bodies include the Soil Association Certification in the UK, Ecocert internationally, Oregon Tilth and California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in the USA.
Wines also often carry the logos of grower-led associations on the label, whereby wineries agree to work to stricter self-imposed rules for grape growing or winemaking or both. Examples of such bodies are Ecovin (Germany), Bioland (Germany), Naturland (Germany), Demeter International and the SIVBCD. The Ecovin association, founded in 1985, is the largest association of organic wineries worldwide.
