Celler Batlliu de Sort is a winery near Spain’s borders with Andorra and France, in the mountains in Sort, Pallars Sobirà – Pyrenees. This lies within the Costers del Segre DO region in Cataluña in Spain.

Terroir: The terrain comprises ‘gently rolling meadows, surrounded by oak and maple forests, at the foot of the Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes Sant Maurici and the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu, and has a bird’s eye view of Sort and the Noguera Pallaresa river which crosses the valley from north to south. The vines are planted at an altitude of 800 m. – 1000 m. and are surrounded by mountains up to 2,900 metres high.
Vineyards: 2016 10ha. Mainly Pinot Noir, Riesling and Viognier, plus some small experimental plantations of other grapes.
Organic certification: 2017 No.
White wines
Riesling, Biu de Sort: 2013 From 100% slate soils. No MLF. 12.5% + dry. 100% steel. Bit milky. | 2015 Crisp, clean, fluid (Real Wine Fair 2017).
Red wines
Pinot Noir, VI Bord Negre: Pinot noir.
Pinot Noir, Biu de Sort: 2015 100% Pinot Noir. Stainless steel. Simple, light, well made (Real Wine Fair 2016).
Pinot Noir, Nero de Sort: From limestone and clay. Planted 2007. | 2014 No SO2. Bit extracted and blurred (Real Wine Fair 2016). | 2015 25% stems. No added sulfites. Good, interesting, some persistency (Real Wine Fair 2016).
